Bristol preview

     In a little less than three hours the NASCAR Cup Series will take to the high banks of Bristol Motor Speedway, otherwise known as the Last Great Colosseum. The topic coming into this week was adding more horsepower specifically to the short track package. The topic a few hours before green flag is how will the “resin”, a compound put down for grip, effect 500 laps of racing in Cup cars. 

    So far this weekend we have seen the cup cars slipping and sliding around and frankly I believe that we are in for a show. This is the first Bristol concrete race in the day time since the 2020 pandemic race. The weather is beautiful so we will be able to see the Next Gen on the Bristol day concrete surface for the first time. There is also a new tire designed for increased tire wear. That combined with resin wearing off lap by lap will most likely make for a interesting race.

  This race also marks the return to concrete from dirt. Also one of few weather free Bristol spring race weekends that we have seen in the past. Prior years this race weekend has been in dirt but weather or dust had effected the race in one way or another. Even before then, this weekend had developed a reputation of being a likely weather effected race which has led to lower attendance numbers for the spring Bristol race, and what was a factor in covering the track with dirt.

     Today we roll into Bristol with reigning champion Ryan Blaney on the pole. Cup series rookie Josh Berry starts along side on the front row. Most recent Bristol winner Denny Hamlin starts 3rd, with Joey Logano and Chase Elliot, 2 drivers who got into a tangle fighting for the win the last time a Cup race was held on concrete in the spring round out the top 5. The real season as many call it begins this weekend as NASCAR takes to the Las Vegas motor speedway. This is the first of many tracks on the circuit that don’t run the racing packages that we saw at Daytona and Atlanta, so there is more chance to spread out and the drivers are in more control.     Drivers now have more of a opportunity to control their own destiny this weekend as now that the tapered spacers, (a part used to restrict horsepower and create pack racing), is taken off, we should see a more traditional race approach from drivers. Bristol Cup Preview

Nascar heads to thunder valley this weekend as it’s time for the Food City 500, which is a 500 lap race around the half mile concrete oval known as Bristol Motor Speedway or otherwise known as the last great Colosseum. It’s going to be a cool weekend as temperatures are expected to be in the 60s but questions remain about how the tire will react this time around. Let’s get into it. This is just the 2nd spring race in the next gen cars and I say this because I believe that was one reason as to why tire wear was so insane last spring along with the cold temps. With now a year of spring data and warmer temperatures I don’t believe that we will see the tire fall off at the rate that we saw last year. I do think there will be some wear later into a long run that falls off significantly. Another Crossroads

Yesterdays race at Kansas Speedway was suppose to be a breath of fresh air as the race track has been looked at as one of the better tracks or maybe even the best track in the Next Gen era. The car races well, there’s multiple grooves, the tires wear decently and there’s strategy at times. The restarts can be chaotic which leads to cautions breed cautions moments as well so there’s something honestly for every fan to enjoy. However at least on social media, the discourse wasn’t too thrilled about the race. The discourse really didn’t like the fact that it didn’t seem like much passing towards the front of the field as they would have liked which is understandable, but also a lot of concern about the grandstands which also had people wondering if Kansas should go to one race instead of 2.
