Next steps for the clash

The dust has settled and hopefully the tempers have calmed as the Clash is now a few days old. We now have about a week and a half until qualifying for the Daytona 500 to think about, “What’s next for the Clash?”

If you were to ask me, I would honestly say either rotate as a stadium series, or take it to a short track in Florida and upgrade it. My third suggestion would be host it in a market that already has a date and can host a February race….but use more marketing and work with cities in market for transportation.

From my eyes, I clearly see a consensus that people would prefer a new venue and it’s luster has worn off. While the racing in my opinion has improved, I do believe that NASCAR should test a different market next year or try a short track in Florida.

A new market would continue into the goal of trying to expand NASCAR, however the amount of tracks and locations is limited to when the Clash is run, which is February. Planning for rain is one thing, but snow and cold…for a exhibition is not ideal. A stadium rotation could work, but football is normally played and that’s too risky with playoffs. At that point I’m not sure.

A short track in Florida with promotion and transportation could work. A short track getting the upgrades that It needs to host a 1 off or few year Cup race would be big for the track, along with proper promotion and working with the city or companies to get transport to and from racetrack. I think the main reason a lot of cities close to race tracks don’t turn out is due to the drive on gas to get there. Could be some who don’t want to spend the money on gas or a ride, and I think cities could help with that like how stl did with free shuttles to and from the event.

That leads me into my third point. I say add the clash to a market NASCAR is already in but can provide service from nearby city to get to and from race. I believe this is one reason that keeps people from even the better markets of NASCAR from coming to a race. The distance. The time, gas, and threat of weather cancellation can all combine to drive someone away. Another reason is lack of promotion. Tv appearances and ads are cool but make it consistent and not last minute.

With that being said where to you want the Clash to be next year?
